Caragan Childs is no stranger to the soccer pitch. The Childs family is no stranger to it. Today in front of teammates, friends, family, coaches, and former coaches Childs signed to follow in her sister’s footsteps and play for the Jones College Bobcats.
“This is one of the biggest days of my life. To see so many faces in here and every single person that helped me on my way, whether it be people taking me to practice, my family coming to games, or coaches supporting me through every moment, it is such a blessing to see everyone here today. Even friends from select soccer came. It is a real blessing. I’ve been playing since I was three-years-old, so this is my sport,” said Childs.
Sumrall is in their fifth season as a soccer program and head coach Todd Siders credits Childs to much of the team’s competitiveness as a young program.
“This is our fifth season and Caragan came on in our second season. She came in and elevated the program quickly. We always expected success, but when she came here four years ago it elevated the trajectory of how fast we could grow this program. She’s been a huge part of the success that we’ve had already.”
Childs has been dominating on the pitch this season with 13 goals on 18 shots. She has also tallied six assists.
“She’s just a fantastic player. She’s an even better person and teammate. She is so athletically gifted with a powerful left foot. She also has speed with that power, so she is the whole package for a soccer player. If you were going to make a soccer player, you would make Caragan Childs,” said Siders.
When asked about why she chose Jones College, Childs said it was wanting to follow in the footsteps of her older sister who played.
“My older sister went to Jones and she has played since she was four-years-old, and she has been a role model. I’ve always wanted to do the things she did, and I think that was what led me to Jones. One of my dreams is to eventually play after Jones College, so that’s why I decided to sign.”
Congratulations to Childs, Sumrall athletics, and her family as she takes the next step.
