Mustangs breeze through opening night in Region 5-5A baseball

West Jones breezed through opening night in Region 5-5A baseball. Behind Kris Riley’s performance on the mound and a big offensive night by Dustin Dickerson, West Jones shutout 5-5A rival Laurel 12-0 Thursday night in a shortened five-inning mercy-rule contest.

West Jones improves to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in Region 5-5A. Laurel falls to 1-5 and 0-1 in region play.

Head coach Trey Sutton said it was good to see Riley back on the mound and in control.

“It was a good win,” said Sutton. “Kris threw the ball well. I was proud of him. He had a bad outing last time, and for him to come back and throw the baseball the way he did, that’s the Kris Riley we know.”
