Both the guys and girls North Forrest teams came into Collins for the second day of the Region 8-2A tournament with a chance at the championship game in the line.
Both took care of business.
The Lady Eagles took the court first against the hosting Collins Lady Tigers. Led by junior Mahogandy Mcnulty and sophomore Ashlynn Mackabee who both scored 11 points each, they defeated the Lady Tigers 49-29.
North Forrest never surrendered the lead during the contest as McNulty scored the game's opening points with a three-point basket.
Collins drew within two points of North Forrest in the second period as Brianna Price hit two free throws to close the gap to 12-10, however, the Lady Eagles pulled away in the second period to take a 29-14 lead as the halftime whistle sounded.
North Forrest cruised during the second half, keeping a comfortable lead, ending with a 20-point difference as the third period ended, 41-21.
Collins went on a 6-0 run to start the fourth period to close within 14, but North Forrest's Kailyn Wilson hit a pair of field goals to cement their 49-29 win.
Collins' Tatiana Cagins led the way for the Tigers with 10 points.
North Forrest will play in the District Championship Friday night against East Marion's Lady Eagles.
Second on the court was the North Forrest and East Marion boys, where North Forrest took a 64-56 victory over East Marion.
Junior Jo Holloway's eight first period points gave the Eagles a slim, two-point lead as the first period ended, 14-12.
A 10-3 run to start the second period gave North Forrest 24-15 lead, but East Marion pulled within five before the half ended as Evin Beach and Cameron Walker hit threes for the East Marion Eagles.
The third period saw East Marion tie things up at 44-44 when Devin Daniels scored on a foul and one. A three from Beach put East Marion ahead 47-45, but North Forrest's Tyrell Pollard and Tre Williams helped the Eagles even things up as the quarter closed, 50-50.
In the final period, North Forrest took the lead and never relinquished it, led by Williams and Holloway, the defeated East Marion 64-56.
Williams was North Forrest's leading scorer with 25 points.
North Forrest will play in the District Championship where they will face off with St. Patrick Friday evening.
