Here are your Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County predictions as picked by Kevan Lindsey.
Brookhaven (0-2) at Petal (2-0)
I came close to picking the exact score for Petal vs. Harrison Central. The Panthers went on the road and took care of business with a 21-7 victory. Expect more of the same this week as they play host to Brookhaven who is surprisingly 0-2. The biggest question is can Micah McGowan go over 100 yards rushing for the third straight game? I believe so.
Petal 28, Brookhaven 12
Sumrall (2-0) at Seminary (2-0)
This will be a fun game. Sumrall is a bit more balanced than Seminary, however, the Bulldogs make impact plays on defense when they have needed to the most. Look for Seminary to utilize ball control and to try and rattle sophomore quarterback John Ford. The Bobcats will need to keep the Seminary defense honest and continue playing as balanced as possible.
Seminary makes the key plays when they need to.
Seminary 27, Sumrall 23
Parklane (2-0) at Presbyterian Christian (1-1)
Presbyterian Christian plays host to Parklane Academy. The Bobcats fell in a close one, scoring 30 points in the fourth quarter only to fall 51-43. This game should be a competitive one throughout, as Parklane has defeated both North Pike and Silliman Institute so far on the season on their way to a 2-0 start. Presbyterian Christian should keep this one close all night but could fall short once again.
Parklane 38, Presbyterian Christian 31
Magee (2-0) at Collins (0-2)
You have to think Collins will be able to get it together this week and put a win in the record books. That may not be a guarantee as Magee rolls into Covington County 2-0 holding shutout victories over Mendenhall and Jefferson County. Head coach Eric Booth will need to make sure his team is focused so they can get back on track and be ready for the start of district play in a few weeks.
I’m not ready to give up on the Tigers just yet.
Collins 23, Magee 22
North Forrest (0-2) at Newton (0-2)
North Forrest was oh so close to getting their first win this past Friday night over Resurrection Catholic but fell 21-20. This week they go on the road to face 0-3 Newton. Head coach Anthony Dillon’s team has a chance to get their first win of the season and turn things around. Look for the Eagles defense to do enough to slow down the Newton Tigers.
