Here are your Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County predictions as picked by Kevan Lindsey.
Current record: 84-31, 73.04%
Brandon (9-4) at Petal (11-1)
Petal dominated Biloxi last week. Last week was last week, though, and the Panthers take on a tougher challenge when the Brandon Bulldogs come back to Petal for the second time in the 2019 season.
The first time these two teams met it was easily one of the best games in the Sports601 coverage area. Petal’s Nate Jones kicked the game-winning field goal that DeCarlos Nicholson led after the Petal defense forced a stop deep in their own territory.
Will this game be as close? Maybe, but I’m not confident in that.
Petal is playing focused football on both sides of the ball and quite frankly, I’m not betting against Marcus Boyles, Micah McGowan, and Ja'Korian Newsome. The Panthers win this one, ending Brandon’s season.
Petal 38, Brandon 20
Oak Grove (9-3) at Gulfport (10-2)
Like the other game taking place, Oak Grove and Gulfport met in the regular season with Oak Grove taking a 37-13 victory over the Admirals. However, these two teams have been on dominate win streaks since they last met.
Gulfport has gone on an eight-game winning streak since losing two-straight games (Oak Grove and Picayune) averaging 31.25 points per game while giving up 18.37 points per game. Oak Grove has gone on a six-game winning streak after losing three-straight games (Archbishop Rummel, George County, and Petal) averaging 41-66 points per game and allowing just 14 points per game.
Take those paper stats for what it is worth, but I’m taking the paper stats and the team who has been in a do-or-die mode for two months: Oak Grove.
Oak Grove 36, Gulfport 27
