Here are your Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County predictions as picked by Kevan Lindsey.
Current record: 81-31, 72.32%
Biloxi (8-3) at Petal (10-1)
The Panthers roll into the first round of the playoffs as district champions with an unblemished record in Region 3-6A. None of that matters though as everyone starts back at 0-0 in the playoffs.
Biloxi finished 8-3 with a win over Region 7-4A champion Greene County early in the season.
Still, I think Petal takes care of business in the first round of the 6A playoffs. If Petal wins, all eyes will be on the D’Iberville vs. Brandon game. Could we see another epic game between the Panthers and Bulldogs? Possibly. Let’s get past round one first, though.
Petal 34, Biloxi 17
Ocean Springs (5-6) at Oak Grove (8-3)
This is a tough one to pick. Not because I think it will be a close game, but because I have several friends who are from and went to Ocean Springs. The Warriors of Oak Grove are heating up at the right time as I talked about yesterday in my column, while Ocean Springs come into the playoffs losers of two straight games.
Oak Grove running back Nick Milsap and his beefy offensive line keep the Warriors rolling. Sorry, Ocean Springs.
Oak Grove 37, Ocean Springs 13
Taylorsville (11-1) at Collins (4-7)
Collins surprised me by taking care of business against Amite County last week. The Tigers put up 48 points in their first-round playoff game, the most they have all season. That should be a good outlook for Collins, right?
Not so fast, my friends.
Taylorsville is who they play this week and the Tartars declawed the Tigers in week five of the season 35-0. I expect this game to be a bit closer, but not by much. Taylorsville is on another level and they are my pick to win the 2A State Championship. It was a good rally, Tigers, but it ends here.
Taylorsville 37, Collins 8
