District Power Rankings - Football.jpg

Here are your Forrest, Lamar, and Covington County power rankings by Kevan Lindsey.

Region 3-6A

1. Petal - 8-1, (5-0)

2. George County - 6-3, (3-2)

3. Oak Grove 6-3, (3-2)

4. Pearl - 6-3, (3-2)

5. Brandon - 6-4, (3-2)

6. Northwest Rankin - 3-6, (3-2)

7. Terry - 2-8, (0-5)

8. Meridian - 1-9, (0-5)

How exciting is this region? A five-way tie for second with two weeks to go in the season sets up pivotal games this week. Oak Grove’s victory over Brandon sends them surging up the board. Petal stays atop the standings, while Pearl and George County both took care of business. Terry and Meridian face off this week and one of them will finally get a district victory.

Region 4-5A

1. Picayune - 9-0, (5-0)

2. Wayne County - 7-2, (5-0)

3. Pascagoula - 5-4, (3-2)

4. East Central - 5-4, (2-3)

5. Hattiesburg - 3-6, (2-3)

6. Pearl River Central - 3-6, (2-3)

7. Gautier - 2-7, (1-4)

8. Long Beach - 1-8, (0-5)

Picayune and Wayne County stay atop the rankings this week. East Central was stunned by Pascagoula 35-25 as the Panthers scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to take the win. Quietly sneaking up is the Hattiesburg Tigers who dominated Long Beach on both sides of the ball to capture a 55-0 win.

Region 7-4A

1. Greene County - 6-3, (4-0)

2. Poplarville - 4-5, (3-1)

3. Purvis - 6-4, (3-1)

4. Forrest County Agricultural - 3-6, (1-3)

5. Stone - 2-6, (1-3)

6. Sumrall - 3-7, (0-4)

It happened. Greene County snapped Poplarville’s five-year streak of winning region titles. With the victory and the final week of the regular season happening this week, this region is nearly set. Stone and Forrest County Ag will fight to determine who is the four seed. Everyone else is locked in as far as the final standings go.

Region 8-3A

1. Columbia - 9-0, (4-0)

2. West Marion - 9-1, (3-1)

3. Jefferson Davis County - 4-6, (2-2)

4. Magee - 8-2, (2-2)

5. Seminary - 5-5, (1-3)

6. Tylertown - 3-7, (0-4)

Much like Region 7-4A, Region 8-3A is all but set. Jefferson Davis County pulled out a big 18-16 win over Magee that sets them at three. Columbia blanked Seminary 31-0 to capture the district title, while West Marion rolled over Tylertown. This week will ultimately set where everyone is in the final standings.

Region 8-2A

1. East Marion - 7-2, (3-0)

2. Perry Central - 4-5, (2-1)

3. Collins - 2-7, (1-2)

4. North Forrest - 3-6, (1-2)

5. St. Patrick - 5-4 (0-3)

East Marion clinched the district with an 8-0 victory over North Forrest. However, this district is anything but clear or set. Let’s just break it down in this explanation below.

If Perry Central defeats North Forrest on Friday, Perry Central is the two seed, Collins the three seed and North Forrest the four seed. If North Forrest defeats Perry Central by eight points or less then Perry Central is the two seed, Collins is the three seed and North Forrest is the four seed. If North Forrest defeats Perry Central by exactly nine or 10 points then Collins is the two seed, Perry Central the three seed and North Forrest the four seed. If North Forrest defeats Perry Central by 11 points or more then Collins is the two seed, North Forrest is the three seed and Perry Central the four seed. If St. Patrick defeats Collins on Friday, then they will be the four seed and the winner of the Perry Central vs. North Forrest game will be the two seed and the loser the three seed.

Got that? Good.

Region 4-1A

1. Lumberton - 8-2, (7-0)

2. Resurrection Catholic - 7-2, (5-2)

3. Stringer - 5-5, (4-3)

4. Mount Olive - 5-5, (4-2)

5. Sebastopol - 5-4, (3-3)

6. Richton - 5-5, (3-3)

7. Leake County - 3-8, (1-5)

8. Salem - 1-8, (1-5)

9. Sacred Heart - 0-8 (0-6)

This district is absolutely wild. Sebastopol defeated Resurrection Catholic two weeks ago, then Stringer blows them out a week later. Also, Lumberton sealed the district title by thumping Res’ 28-3, handing them their second-straight defeat. Mt. Olive and Richton picked up victories which set up a showdown for the playoffs this Friday night as they face off. Stringer needs a victory over Sacred Heart to seal a postseason berth. This is another fun district that will be more clear after Friday.

MAIS District 1-6A

1. Madison-Ridgeland Academy - 9-2, (4-0)

2. Jackson Prep - 8-2, (3-1)

3. Oak Forest Academy - 7-3, (2-2)

4. Jackson Academy - 6-4, (2-2)

5. Presbyterian Christian - 5-5, (1-3)

6. Parklane Academy - 6-4, (0-4)

No movement this week for the MAIS District 1-6A region. Everyone is pretty well locked in where they will likely fall in the final standings. MRA defeated Presbyterian Christian 38-7, while Jackson Prep squeaked by Parklane Academy 31-28.
