Dear Golden Eagles,
I hope you are all well, and taking care of yourself and your loved ones. These are unprecedented, trying times for our community, state, and country, as we respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are faced with some difficult challenges and questions ahead, with very few answers right now.
Regardless of the challenges, our focus here at Southern Miss continues to be on the well-being and success of our student-athletes. The manner in which we deliver that care will continue to evolve, but it will stay at the center of our decision-making process. We have an outstanding group of administrators and coaches who will continue to work tirelessly to provide the best for the young men and women in our programs.
As most of you have probably seen, very serious steps have been taken by the NCAA and at the conference level to limit the spread of COVID-19. This includes cancellation of all sporting events, NCAA championships, and any organized practices or workouts for the remainder of the spring. While this means we will all miss out on some things we love over the next couple of months, it is a necessary step to protect our student-athletes, coaches, staff, fans and community.
Regardless of the challenges during these uncertain times, one constant remains…the Southern Miss Spirit! I have seen it in our student-athletes and coaches with how they have handled a very difficult situation with grace and maturity. I have also seen it in our fans who have rallied together to support all of us, and each other, in a very impactful and important way. While the next few months will be demanding, there is no doubt in my mind that we will come out on the other side of this stronger than ever before. The Golden Eagle Family shall persevere.
As always…Southern Miss To The Top!
