POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River women’s basketball coach Scotty Fletcher has dipped into Louisiana’s talent pool one more time to help fill out his 2020 signing class. The Wildcats’ latest catch is Ra’Nae Tumblin.
The 5-foot-5 guard joins an incoming class that already includes Louisiana standouts Brandy Scott of Hammond, La., and Jai’Breon Brown of White Castle, La. In-state signees include Terry’s Bryanna Taylor, Biloxi’s Marcavia Shavers, Pearl’s Keshunti Nichols, Puckett’s Alliyah Gray and Meridian’s Tymesha Reed.
“I am beyond excited to announce the signing of our last out-of-state player for the upcoming season. Ra’Nae Tumblin is a proven winner on and off the court,” Fletcher said. “She just led her team to their first ever state championship and comes from a great program.”
Fetcher said Tumblin’s “relentless play” on both ends of the floor reminds him of former Wildcat and East Tennessee signee Gabby Brown.
“She has a high motor like Gabby did,” he said. “She is a versatile guard who enjoys competition and her competitive spirit will be very beneficial for our program.”
Tumblin joins PRCC fresh off of a decorated prep career at Booker T. Washington in New Orleans.
The guard helped lead her prep squad to a 20-12 record in 2018-19 and a trip to the LHSAA 1A semifinals. The athletic guard earned a number of honors following the season, including inclusion on the Times-Picayune All-Metro Team, 8-1A First Team and MVP honors and an 1A All-State Second Team selection by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Tumblin and Booker T. Washington took the next step this season, despite jumping up to Class 3A, knocking off the No. 1 and 2 seeds en route to the school’s first state championship.
Tumblin’s squad finished the season with 22 wins while the new PRCC signee averaged 17.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.7 steals.
Tumblin is an honorable mention on Louisiana Girls Rankings for the 2020 class.
